Due to the increasing popularity of Joomla, many people are interested to learn more about how to make adjustments to the sites especially to the site’s templates. This can be an additional knowledge for you if you are serious about using Joomla. The popularity of Joomla is rooted in its free nature and ease of operations. Those who are not knowledgeable of programming can still manage to set up site using Joomla.

There are times that we experience simple problem, but it is difficult to solve. Some of the Joomla developers thought that this simple problem can be solved by simply performing a quick click. However, the reality seems revealed the opposite thing. For instance, when you wish to modify the width of a Joomla site template, you think that it is really a simple concern. But the question is, where should you begin?

Almost all high standard templates have the capacity to change the template’s width and also the width of side columns. Remember that the width of the template involves the width of every side of the columns within the template. So for example, if the width of the template is 962 pixels, 260 pixels will be the width of each right and left columns. The center column’s width will be 542 pixels.

To further my discussion, I will focus on the ways when changing the overall width of the Joomla template and the width of its side columns which appear in the Template. Before I proceed, I assume that you have already installed the latest version of Joomla and familiar with every elements of the administrator area.

The first move you should make is to head over to the Joomla site and locate the back-end administration. Click the menu for the *Extensions* and select *Template Manager.* Then, select your template and click on the box and proceed to edit button of the administrator area.

You can make notes and reminders in order for you to recall or retrieve the original template’s width once you decide to use it in the future. When changing one column, check the column located in the “parameters” button and start making your changes. After that click the *Apply* button and refresh the page to see if the changes have been applied. This step can be used for any column you want to change.

In case you prefer to see similar width on side columns, but make a decision to change the template’s entire width, you can simply change the width parameter of the template. Doing this will only change the width of the middle column without affecting the original width of other columns.

After finishing the desired changes to the width of the Joomla template, hit the *Save* button to ensure all the changes are saved. Click the button (Refresh) and you may now view the results. Most of template developers do not provide these particular parameters. However there are instances that high quality template are contained in the administrator location. You may use these parameters when changing the width of your Joomla template.
