What Is WordPress And How You Can Benefit From It

If you don’t know the first thing about WordPress, it’s actually a Content Management System (CMS) which lets you easily manage websites from anywhere in the world. Before there were WordPress websites, there were HTML websites.
The problem with HTML websites is that you needed to edit your website’s files from your computer and then upload the files again through an FTP connection. You had to do it every time you made changes to your website, no matter how small. Also, if you were going to set up an HTML website, you needed to have an HTML the web designer design your website for you. Back then, hiring a web designer cost hundreds of dollars, although we’re not sure how much they cost now.
With WordPress, however, website owners can easily update their website and not have to touch their FTP connections. The only thing they need to do is to login to their website’s WordPress admin and make their changes from there. They can then publish posts, and upload videos and pictures.
So, if you’re thinking of making a new website, we would recommend that you set up a WordPress website. If you’re a total newbie to website making, the first thing you need to do is to register a domain name with domain registrars like GoDaddy or Namecheap. Next, you will need to set up a hosting account and attach the domain name to your hosting account. If that just sounded French to you, you can ask for support from your web hosting company.
Once your web hosting account is set up, login to your cPanel and then set up your WordPress admin from there. If you’re using Hostgator as your web hosting service, scroll down to the bottom to Fantastico.
WordPress is easy to set up and even easier to use, however, it’s really not that flexible in terms of design. Design in WordPress is very much dependent on WordPress themes. Some themes are flexible while some are not. Also, there are free themes and there are also paid themes.
We like to say that you always get what you pay for in life and when it comes to so-called free WordPress themes, you always pay for it with less flexibility in design. On the other hand, while you do pay with money for paid themes, at least you know you have more flexibility in terms of design and functions. There are many paid WordPress themes out there like Genesis and Flexsqueeze.
Your choice of WordPress theme should really depend on the topic of your website and your particular audience. If you want to know which themes are hot and what-not, just login to your WordPress website and go to Appearance and then Themes. If you’re not able to find what you’re looking for, just search for themes on Google or any other search engine. With any luck, you should be able to find a theme that looks great and does not look like a WordPress theme template.
